We often hear about sowing money in relation to the possibility of following a calendar of the lunar phases that can allow to exploit the main characteristics of each “gravitational” moment.

But what does the sow according to the schedule? What are the characteristics of this procedure that still has many followers today? And what can we do, step by step?

What is sowing according to the wages

Let's go in greater order. There moon phase of gardening it is a very old idea, quite popular in folklore and superstition, although there are actual scientific ideas to support it.

It is known, in fact, that the Earth is in a large gravitational field, influenced by both the Sun and the Moon. The tides are for example highest at the time of the new moon and the full moon, when the sun and moon are aligned with the earth. Just like the Moon "pulls" the tides into the oceans, our satellite would also be able to "pull" subtle bodies of water, causing the Earth's moisture to increase, which in turn encourages growth.

The highest amount of moisture found in the soil in specific phases of the moon has been demonstrated, as has been shown that seeds absorb most of the water at the time of the full moon. Planting following the phases of the moon will maintain the rhythm with the alternation of the gravitational force of attraction.

Now, consider that the moon phase of gardening consider four phases - or quarters - lasting about seven days each. The first two quarters are those of the growing light, followed by the new moon and the full moon.

At this point, we just have to see, step by step, what are the gardening tips!

New Moon

At the new moon, lunar gravity is able to draw water up and swell and burst the seeds. This factor, combined with the growing moonshine, promotes balanced growth of roots and leaves.

The first quarter is therefore the best time to plant above the ground with annual crops that produce their seeds outside of the fruit. Examples of this are lettuce, spinach, celery, broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower and cereals.

Second quarter moon

In the second quarter the gravitational attraction is less, but the moonshine is still quite strong, creating healthy leaf growth. It is generally a good time to plant, especially two days before the full Moon.

The types of crops that prefer the second quarter for cultivation are the annual ones that produce on the surface, but whose seeds are formed inside the fruit, such as beans, melons, peas, peppers, pumpkins and tomatoes. It is generally recommended to plant just before the full moon to get the benefits of maximum humidity.

Full moon

The third and last quarters are those that arrive with the full Moon, when the light decreases or decreases its intensity, and the energy is running out.

The gravitational pull is high, creating more moisture in the ground, but the moonlight is decreasing. This is a good time to plant roots for some crops such as beets and carrots, which attract strength right under the ground. It is also a good time for some perennials, bulbs and transplants due to active root growth.

Last quarter of the moon

Finally, we arrive at the last quarter of the moon, where the force of gravitational attraction and the moonlight are reduced. With these characteristics, the last quarter of the moon is generally considered to be a period of rest. This is also the best time to grow, harvest, transplant, fertilize and prune.

Of course, just as there are many supporters of the lunar calendar in support of agriculture and gardening, it should be remembered that there are also many people - most of them - who do not believe in this sowing according to the living.

Therefore, our advice can only be to make “expert” knowledge prevail in this sector. If you need a review of your green area, it is better to ask for specific advice from a good gardener, who step by step will allow you to renew your garden, following all the best indications for sustained growth and compatible with the characteristics of the garden. area you have available.
